You will also learn about Canadian laws, health care, Canadian society, the job market and many other things that are important for a successful life in Canada. In upper LINC levels you will become more prepared to qualify for training or employment. To work in Canada, you may need to take classes beyond LINC in order to work in your particular field.

What are LINC Classes?

LINC classes will help you improve your English skills. 

You will also learn about Canadian laws, health care, Canadian society, the job market and many other things that are important for a successful life in Canada.

In upper LINC levels you will become more prepared to qualify for training or employment.  To work in Canada, you may need to take classes beyond LINC in order to work in your particular field.

Students who complete LINC 8 may wish to take high school credit classes or Business, Careers & Job Skills classes.

Who Can Take LINC Classes?

Newcomers to Canada 17 years or age or older and approved for permanent residence. 

All LINC classes are funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.  Canadian citizens, temporary visitors, temporary foreign workers and refugee claimants who have not yet received a positive decision on their refugee status claim cannot take LINC classes. You must have at least one of the following documents:

  • Permanent Resident Card (PRC)

  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence (form IMM5292)

  • Record of Landing (form IMM1000 - issued prior to June 2002)

  • Notice of Decision from the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) confirming convention refugee status

  • Letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) giving approval to remain in Canada while application for permanent residence is being finalized (Approval in Principle Letter)

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) is a FREE English Language program* that will help you get settled in your new home.

*Please note: LINC is available to permanent residents of Canada and refugees seventeen years of age or older. Canadian citizens and visitors are ineligible.
