Food Studies 12 is a self-paced, self-directed advanced food studies course designed for students who enjoy working with and learning about foods and the food industry. While utilizing safe food-handling, you will develop the knowledge and skills to practice advanced techniques to prepare delicious, nutritious, aesthetic, and cost-efficient meals. You will learn about relevant topics such as cultural appropriation, the principles of nutrition, and global citizenship. All learning material is provided online, but you will be responsible for purchasing ingredients for 10 cooking labs at home. The cost will be dependent on the recipes that you choose for each lab.
It is imperative that you can utilize a computer. You will be required to navigate through a Moodle website, download and open Word documents, take photos from your phone or camera and insert them into Word documents, and save and upload files to a drop box.

Students have one year to complete the course from registration. Students are expected to complete 5% in the first month. Students will participate in various online activities which may include Moodle online lessons, online discussions, and e-mail interactions with the teacher. Students can meet with their teacher for orientation and learning support by visiting CLOC.
This online self-paced course is offered at the Coquitlam Learning Opportunity Centre (CLOC), located near Coquitlam Centre.
