2019
Secondary Programs

The Summer Learning program in School District 43 provides engaging learning opportunities for students in Grades 1 through 12. All courses are taught by certified teachers and are tuition free for students meeting the usual BC residency requirements.

Select a class by clicking SUMMER LEARNING under the Browse menu to the left OR by selecting Courses under the location of your choice below.  Click on specific classes for course descriptions.

Secondary Skill Building

Secondary Skill Building courses are non-credit courses. Students may take these courses to review previously covered course content OR to preview a course that they will take in the future.  For example, a Grade 9 Math Skill Building class might include students who have completed Grade 9 and would benefit from extra time. The class might also include students who have completed Grade 8 and would like to get ready for Grade 9. These courses are available to all students who will be in Grades 9 through 11 this September 2019 (with the exception of Band, Tech Ed, and Culinary courses, which are open to students in Grades 8 through 11 this September 2019).  Only students currently in Grade 8 or older (as of September 2019) are eligible to register for afternoon classes.
This summer we are pleased to offer an increased list of "Tech Ed" courses. Click here for info.

Note: Classes do not cover the entire curriculum in the course area. They do not replace an entire grade. Students completing these courses do not receive a final letter grade, nor is this course recorded on their transcript.

Advanced Credit (High School Credit)

Advanced Credit (High School Credit) courses are full credit courses.  Students who complete these courses will receive full credit and their final mark on their transcript.

Please be aware that Advanced Credit courses are rigorous and intense.  Completing a full credit course in six weeks requires a serious commitment from the student as classes are three and a half hours long, there is regular homework involved, and daily attendance is a must.  Please register only if you are making this commitment.

See our Deposit policy here.

Are you looking to retake a  Grade 11 or 12 course to upgrade your mark?  Please note that Grade 11 and 12 courses from this current school year are no longer available as of July 1.  The Ministry of Education is mandating only the new Grade 11 and 12 courses will be offered this summer.  This means that your mark from an 11 or 12 course this summer will appear on your transcript assigned to this new course;  your previous mark from an "old" course will remain as is.

Wondering about whether you will write the English 12 provincial exam?  Please see the class description for English Studies 12.

Fast Track (Online Blended)

Fast Track courses follow a blended learning model:  two weekly face-to--face sessions and three days of online work. When not in class, teachers will be available for both online and face-to-face tutorial support. Face-to-face classroom methods are combined with computer-mediated activities. Students attend school twice a week for 3 hours for an enriched classroom experience.

Either T/Th or W/F  (Note: T/Th classes begin Thurs. July 4. In order to schedule enough face-to-face classes an additional class will be held on Monday July 8). Face-to-face classes are 3 hour sessions (8:30—11:30 a.m. & 12:00-3:00 p.m.)

On days when students are not in class they access materials online and work, independently or in groups, on course materials. (Student will not be required to participate in an online synchronous class as in previous years).

Note: This program is best suited for students wishing to complete the selected course within a 6-week timeline.
