Dig into something good this summer, Join SOYL 2022!
Do you want to earn school credits while working in our forest and farm, earning money, and making friends?
Are you a student who is entering Grade 10 or 11 and interested in nature, first peoples knowledge, and good food? Join Fresh Roots for a unique 6-week summer leadership and employment program. Based out of the Suwa’lkh program at
Millside Centre in Coquitlam, the SOYL program empowers youth to steward our schoolyard farm and forest. The focus is on learning, community building, and growing
“Good Food for All”. Upon successful completion of the program you will received a $600 stipend. You will also complete a full four-credit course in a locally developed course,
Self-Efficacy 10 or
Self-Efficacy 11.
More details:
- This is a full day program that runs July 4 to August 11, 9am to 3:30pm Mondays to Thursdays.
- Part of the program is to participate in a locally-developed course called Self-Efficacy. Students will be assigned to the Grade 10 or Grade 11 version based on their grade level. Self-efficacy is about believing in and refining your ability to achieve something. In the Self-Efficacy course, students will develop interpersonal and teamwork skills as they work in the SOYL food growing and marketing program. Students will further develop their communication, self-regulation, and decision-making skills, while also engaging in goal-setting activities. Course activities and assignments will be integrated into the daily work and tasks in the SOYL program. Upon program completion, students will receive full credit and a final mark on their school transcript.
- Students must apply to get into this program. Visit freshroots.ca/soyl for the application form, which opens in March 2022. Please apply only if you are committed to the entire 6-week program and completing course assignments.
